Revealing All about Sydney Botulinum Injections

Filed under: Makeup & Beauty, Miscellany, The Medical Way — admin @ 3:07 am

Botulinum therapy (shortened to B.tox) is rapidly becoming trendy in Sydney society and in fact it has become a grooming must for many in the city. Even so I never cease to be surprised by the stories about this procedure.

I have included below some of the more popular mistakes that I hear all the time in my work as a doctor at Star Cosmetic Medicine located in Pyrmont, Sydney.

Myth Number 1: The muscles in my forehead will stiffen up!

Underneath the skin of the face are sixty or so muscles. These muscles normally work in harmony, however over a period of time lines or wrinkles can start to appear. Too many injections of Botulinum Toxin can result in the muscles of the face becoming over relaxed. More often than not physicians use comparatively small quantities to will result in you looking well rested, but still you will keep your normal expression.

By using a carefully calculated quantity of the toxin in just the right muscles an expressive face is preserved whilst any lines undergo a softening effect.

Myth Number 2: B.tox is toxic!
This to some extent is correct. Botulinum Toxin Type A is the exact scientific terminology. An overdose can loosen facial muscles that you do not want relaxed and even can cause sickness.

But to maintain some perspective: a notable pharmacist’s expression states that ‘everything is a poison - all depending on the dose’. All medications in a large amount will make you unwell. Water can kill you if enough is taken.

Myth Number 3: B.tox will hurt!
At Star Cosmetic Medicine the doctor utilises a needle finer than human hair. Some people compare the injections to a mosquito bite. Certainly not as sore as getting a blood profile.

Myth Number 4: I will lose feeling in my face!
False. B.tox acts on the junction between the nerve and the facial muscle, not sensate nerves. B.tox only impacts on the relaxation of muscles.

Myth Number 5. Once you begin B.tox you must continue or you will age faster than before!
Once More this is simply wrong.

You can expect B.tox to last for in the region of three months. Consequent injections do last a few weeks more. Gradually as muscle strength returns to normal, the wrinkles will return bit by bit. However they will certainly be no worse than before.

Even if you never had B.tox ever again - any wrinkles will most likely be a little less noticeable than if you had not undergone the treatment. Due to the fact that your facial muscles and skin have had a rest for a few months.
