Seven Gemstones for Success

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 10:46 am

“Let your heart be in your labor and success will often follow.”

When you set a goal, no matter how difficult it seems to accomplish, don’t be afraid to take the risk. In life, some sacrifices are worth the challenge. So, stop making excuses. Life is too short to miss out on reaching for your goals and realizing dreams do come true. With a little effort and a little time on your part make a commitment to go for it!

If your goals and your dreams are good ones a plan is required to make them real. Develop a time plan or a target. For instance, when you know the end result you wish to accomplish, you might list several mini targets to work on first.

Your initial target plan might look like this:

If you wish to lose 20 pounds, set up a weekly schedule. The first week you might start a daily exercise program. Second week- start cutting back on sugar and sweets. Third week - try and lowering your daily intake of calories, and so on until your goal weight is achieved.

If you wish to take a trip to the south of France (or wherever), or if you desire to expand your business, the strategy would be similar. You may need to set up a weekly or monthly schedule to put a sum away toward the cost of the trip or the cost needed to purchase more space and more equipment for the business. You could cut back on your spending and put the savings aside, or take on an extra paying project until you reach your required goal. When you’ve accumulated sufficient funds for the trip or the down payment on the larger business space and more equipment, you can plan your next target.

So that you may have a richer, fuller, more rewarding life, putting a system together to target your success and make your dreams a reality may include the following seven gems:

Set reasonable goals and target dates. Day to day living makes a lot of demands on you - your time, your physical and emotional energy, and your responsibilities. Do not set yourself up for defeat. Master one goal at a time and do not expect instant gratification. With the onset of the microwave, and then along comes the computer and the internet both giving ways to shortcut everything you do, trying to stay focused isn’t always easy.

Be the master of your thoughts. Dream big. A small goal takes just as much time and effort as a giant one. Think your goal through and keep a record of your ideas and a time schedule of what needs to be done and when. Seek help where needed.

Choose goals that you are passionate about. Motivation and inspiration are powerful forces that keep you moving toward your goals. Positive attitudes are also helpful. And of course, never forget your faith and the knowledge that a higher power is available to help you reach your goal. Remember: Nothing is easy, and everything takes time - lots of it. So, be patient -it eliminates the stress.

Stay healthy and practice taking care of yourself - first. When you aren’t feeling well, everyone around you is affected -your family, your friends and associates, and your business clients. Try to stay flexible and allow enough time to work on any project so you won’t have to rush. The old saying: “Haste makes waste,” is often true and may even cause a serious accident. And if you are a sole proprietor, when illness or accidents happen, this could mean a devastating loss of business income.

Don’t be afraid to take risks. Fear is an internal blockage that you impose on your thoughts. It is a way of making excuses for not dealing directly with your anxiety. Or, you may not wish to face the outcome. What if it doesn’t work out? Instead, replace your thoughts of fear with your own source of strength and let your inner support system guide you.

Keep a list of your qualities and values. What do you consider to be your most valuable asset? Do you know which of your qualities you need to make stronger? Make a list of those qualities and values that you think are the best you, those that make you feel most secure, and give you your highest self-esteem. Some of these may include: self-confidence, a forgiving nature, courage, being a good listener, trustworthy and honest, and a willingness to inspire others.

Keep your emotions under control. A peaceful attitude and an awareness of your surroundings go hand in hand with prosperity and success. When you are peaceful, your thoughts and actions come from a wide-awake place that is free of fear and confusion. You will see more clearly and act quickly. When you are at peace within yourself, you attract all that is good. You are more likely to bring success, happiness and prosperity to you. When you feel rich, you attract riches. And when you feel successful, you become successful.

Make it your goal to attract the best of gems to reach your success and prosperity!

Are you willing to pay the price?

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 1:24 am

“When you see the promise, you will be willing to pay the price.”

Most times when I walk on the streets I notice different sets of people. There are always the successful ones and those on the other side of the divide. I used to ask myself why this is so until I read a book by Jim Rohn, “Leading an inspired life.” I then understood why some people will be successful in life and some won’t be.

This life is built on paying a price to get to one’s destination. We all have a price to pay, what determines where we end at the end of the day. When we start out early in life, we always see a bright and promising future ahead of us; the world looks conquerable to us that we dream of so many lovely things we are going to do with our lives. We see ourselves in lovely rides, beautiful mansions and wining and dining with the mighty in our communities. We see people such as Bill Gates, Warren Buffets and their likes as our models and boy, we can’t wait to get to their levels!

On setting out, the reality sets in! It is not as easy as we think it will be! We have heard several times that uneasy lies the head that wears the crown but unfortunately, FEW are willing to undergo the “uneasy” part of being successful. Those who have been successful, always place the picture of where they want to go directly in front of them. They sleep and wake with the picture always before them and where ever they go, they never leave the picture behind. That is the promise they are pursuing. When they have the mental picture of what they want to achieve, all that remains is to look at the price they will have to pay, in order to get to where they are going. They are never afraid of the price they have to pay because of the mental picture that they are always carrying with them.

Successful people pay a lot of prices before they achieve their success. They suffer a lot of ridicule from people around them, rejection is always their lot on a regular basis. What of hunger? They always have to go a lot of days without food just because they want to achieve the promise. Days are spent without having a dime in their pocket but they are still undaunted. The owe debt to high heavens and they see that as a price they needed to pay. In all these situations, they are always in a cheerful mood and unless they tell you what they are passing through, you will not be able to know. That is the big difference between a person who succeeds and a failure in life: An ability to see the promise and pay the price.

People who don’t make it at the end of the day, see the promise or the luxuries of a successful life, but are not willing to pay the price. By so doing, they don’t become successful. Willingness to pay the price, no matter how heavy it is, is a perquisite to being successful at the end of the day. “No pain, No gain” is a popular word which we all need to imbibe, seriously, into our lives. If you are going to be successful later in life, you must be willing to pass through lot of hassles. If you are not willing to, then I am not sure you are willing to become a successful person. See every negative event arising while trying to achieve your dreams, as one of the price you have to pay on your way to living a successful life.

You will get there.

Seven Habits Of Ineffective People

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 12:13 am

For maximum effectiveness in life, love or business, it helps to have the right habits. You knew that, of course, but don’t forget that it also helps to not have the wrong habits. What are these?

Seven Effectiveness-Killing Habits

1. Short term thinking. I knew a man who paid $700 rent instead of $550 per month for a nicer place. The landlord didn’t require a deposit, so he could move in for $300 less. Now he pays $1,800 more per year in rent. Borrowing from a loanshark to get into the other place would have made more sense, even at 200% annual interest.

2. Waiting for opportunities. Don’t we all know people who are “waiting for their ship to come in,” while others are out there building ships? Work invites opportunities - waiting doesn’t.

3. Blaming. This is a favorite habit of many bitter people. When has blaming others ever motivated you to improve your situation? Talk about an effectiveness-killer.

4. Looking outside for answers to inside problems. Similar to blaming, this habit is based on misunderstanding why we are in our current situation. In our free and wealthy society, it’s usually due to what’s going on inside our heads.

5. Procrastinating. Actually, I like this habit. Just stop applying it to things you need to do, and apply it to picking up that cigarette, eating that cake, or getting into that argument.

6. Laziness. I don’t know what to say about this bad habit, except that I don’t know of anyone who has suffered greatly from forcing themselves to get up and do something. Try something easy first.

7. Acting on impulse. I met a guy at the bus stop this week who within five minutes mentioned that he had bought a $200 hat and that he was hoping they would approve his welfare application. Do you think he might have a problem with impulse control?

If “creating a new you” seems daunting, just start correcting your bad habits, one-by-one. This alone will increase your effectiveness in any pursuit, and your success in life.

Mindfulness and Relief: A Prescription For Awareness

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 11:49 pm

Back in the days before prescription drug advertisements took over those commercial breaks on television–”Ask your doctor if ____ is right for you.”–there was a popular and memorable ad for an over-the-counter heartburn remedy. The tag line was “How do you spell relief? R-O-L-A-I-D-S.” Oh, and then there was the Alka Seltzer one: “Plop, plop, fizz, fizz, oh, what a relief it is…”

I’ve been reminded of these numerous times in the last couple of weeks. “Relief” has become a word that implies an enormous amount of work, money, energy, emotion and need. In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, the focus has shifted from rescues to the months or years of relief efforts that must be undertaken to restore the spirits as well as the structures that were destroyed by the catastrophic storm.

The dictionary defines “relief” as a reduction of suffering that occurs in response to any information, action or aid. Information–we feel relieved upon learning that our loved ones have arrived home safe and sound after an extended trip. Action–we are relieved when someone shows up to help us repair a broken pipe. Aid–we are relieved when we receive a check from Dad to pay for those expensive college textbooks.

In the news these days, you can read or hear the word “relief” used to refer to information (where to find loved ones, how to get help), action (rescuing people and pets from their homes, draining streets, repairing levees) and aid (providing food, water, shelter, money and counseling) to those who have been affected by the hurricane.

In between those news reports are plenty of advertisements. You can read or hear the word “relief” used in reference to all kinds of symptoms–headaches, heartburn, nervousness, sleeplessness, and many more.

It would appear that we are continuously focused on providing relief from all kinds of suffering. And yet, if we are so attuned to relieving ourselves and others from distress, shouldn’t we at some point become so good at reducing suffering that we no longer need to focus on it? And if we no longer had a need to mention relief of some kind every 30 seconds, wouldn’t that alone reduce our suffering?

The continuous references to relief indicate instead a great deal of suffering and a seemingly unending need for assistance. Perhaps we should view this as a sort of critical mass, a tipping point in terms of our recognition of suffering in general.

A more traditional mindfulness trainer would now segue into how Buddhist principles remind us that life is full of suffering, and the cause of this suffering is attachment. But I’d rather focus on this: we need to learn how to pay attention in order to SEE how suffering–and attachment– affects us and others. So, let’s start there, shall we?

Let’s use the word “relief” as a trigger for mindfulness around the concept of suffering in all its forms. What if we started paying attention to the word “relief” every time we heard, read or said it? What if we USED it as a way to note suffering and provide a focal point for our awareness of it?

We can start small in our own lives on a daily basis. Pay attention to the word “relief” whenever you hear, see, or say it. A friend who got some good news after a biopsy. Your son after getting a good grade on a report card. Your partner who thanks you for taking on that task he really dislikes. Focus on what someone is really telling you when they say they are relieved–their suffering has been reduced.

By using the word “relief” as a trigger for mindfulness, we can tap into our understanding of the different kinds of suffering and the many ways we can, through small gestures, make life more comfortable, safe, and satisfying for those around us.

That’s a prescription for awareness.

Challenge or opportunity

Gratitude as Motivator for change, a love letter

Ok, so you got a lousy diagnosis (I did)*. Darn it! Damn it! This was not part of the plan. OK, deal with it. Do what you have to do. Ask questions. Have tests. Have consultations. Have second opinions. Have surgery. Recover. Get on with it.

Whether relaxing at the world class spa resort having had a massage, facial, delicious meal served pool side or sitting in the radiologist’s office awaiting results of the third round of x rays, it is possible to direct your thinking to greet each challenge as an opening. Yes, you can. It’s a version of saying yes to it all and being willing to understand that within every situation, even the challenging ones, exists an opportunity. I love knowing that. I didn’t know it all my life and it is truly life changing to be able to be in touch with the power to use gratitude as a motivator for change. Yes, it is power.

Are you feeling like a victim? Are you enriched by your opportunities? Are you willing to take time such as a visit to a spa to ponder and relax and be open for possibilities?

The spa experience is ideal for generating new and delicious possibilities. Whether you travel to one of the popular, well known spa locations, or create a spa like setting in your own garden, you can benefit from setting that time and space aside to review how it is with your world and what you’d like to change. Consider the possibilities even if your budget is limited: >Getaway Package (you turn off the ringer on your phone) >Aromatherapy Massage (sit in the sun with your favorite lotion) >European Facial (maybe you could try that mask that’s been in the drawer) >Spa Manicure (take turns with a friend or splurge and make an appointment) >Spa Pedicure (a really special treat, include a soak while you read something uplifting or inspiring) >Spa Gift (make an i.o.u. and begin to save spare change to treat yourself later)

And, if cash is flowing, consider this option: Eco-spas are set in a natural or protected area and have a major commitment to incorporating environmentally friendly practices such as organic gardening, water conservation, and ecological building design. They encourage sensitivity to the natural environment and wildlife through education of spa-goers, and may also promote the well being of local people and culture by preserving indigenous healing traditions and ingredients. Thus you’d combine travel and education along with your spa experience.

In addition to a variety of spa options, there are many, many ways to view any situation or fact or incident. I say, choose gratitude. Yes, regardless of the challenge, it is possible to build new muscles while handling it and become stronger in the process. I wish it for you! Please see the resource box below if you*d like to have a coaching conversation about the possibilities. Love, Leslie

Why Carlaisa from Ireland Visits Chamonix Mont Blanc

Filed under: Recreation Resources, Travel Tips — admin @ 12:51 pm

Chamonix Haute Savoie France is a unique French town with the infamous Monte Bianco as well as majestic glaciers. Most of us like to go paragliding or sometimes sightseeing. I sometimes catch a plane from Big Piney and stay at a Chamonix guesthouse for the duration of my stay.

My family and I previously went to Clarion Hotel at the Palace however it sometimes didn’t meet the standards of its its advert: The Clarion Hotel at the Palace is within walking distance of 16 different music shows and approximately six miles from Branson’s M Graham Clark Airport. The Grand Village Shops and Grand Palace are located right next door. This location is also three miles west of Highway 65 on the famous 76 Country Blvd. Factory Merchants Mall is one mile away, Celebration City is two miles away, and Silver Dollar City and Table Rock Lake are within six miles of the hotel. The Clarion has hosted its own list of royalty over the years. Former President George Bush and his wife Barbara are two of the celebrated guests that opted to stay at the hotel. Hotel amenities include the restaurant and lounge, indoor and outdoor pools, fitness center, and complimentary continental breakfast. The hotel also offers bell service, laundry facilities, and complimentary limo service for pickup from Branson’s M Graham Clark Airport.

However in Chamonix village the catered chalet is always outstanding. Moreover eating out in my preferred French restaurant, Evelyns Nanaquaket Drive-In Inc, eating yellow squash pie is a real treat. Chamonix Mont Blanc France is a big enough town to insure that there is lots for the holiday maker to do. Including a casino and a weekly market with fresh local produce, Chamonix offers a combination of walking, French alpine charm and shopping which not many French ski resorts can match.

15 MAGIC MINUTES

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 4:40 pm

This morning while I was out walking I realized, after the first mile, that I shouldn’t have had all that water beforehand, if you get my drift. And I had four more miles to go!

I suppose I could have ducked into a neighborhood gas station restroom, but I was too embarrassed. So I walked and walked and walked, my bladder feeling fuller by the minute.

Why am I telling you this? Because the way I got through it was 15 minutes at a time. I kept telling myself that I could tolerate discomfort for 15 minutes. At the end of that 15 minutes I signed up for another 15 minutes. And pretty soon it was just 15 minutes to my house and my bathroom.

The 15-minute rule works for all sorts of discomfort, including that generated by your inner brat - the primitive part of your mind that sabotages your best efforts. It’s equally effective for:

a) When you have to take action on something, such as exercise, cleaning or other activities that require effort. I’m using the 15-minute rule as I write this newsletter.

b) When you want to ignore your inner brat’s nagging for immediate gratification such as junk food, cigarettes or alcohol.

Why 15 minutes? I’ve found that for my clients as well as for myself, 15 minutes is all that it takes for the anxiety to diminish and for your inner brat to calm down.

For example, suppose you want to accomplish something that you’ve been procrastinating - such as organizing your closet, finishing paperwork or following through on a project.

The first 5 minutes are the hardest. You feel antsy, unfocused. Your inner brat complains in the back of your mind that it really doesn’t feel like doing it right now.

But if you ignore your inner brat’s protests and focus on what you are to do, something almost magical happens. You’ll find that you gradually become calmer and your ability to concentrate improves.

Before you know it, your 15 minutes are up. Now it’s up to you to decide whether to continue for another 15. This time it’s a lot easier.

What about those times when you have to refrain from something? Suppose you’re thinking about that chocolate in the next room; or you know that you must stop playing computer games?

It’s the same thing - get busy for 15 minutes. But make sure that you’re busy enough to not think about what you’re craving, because thinking about it magnifies the craving. Again, the first 5 minutes are the hardest, but surely you can tolerate only 5 minutes of discomfort, can’t you?

When you break life into 15-minute chunks you can do (or refrain from) just about anything.

How are you going to spend the next 15 minutes?

Simple Steps To Increase Your Self Confidence

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 3:40 pm

Despite what you might think most people have issues with their confidence and would like to be more assertive and care-free. In this article I write about how I gained more confidence and overcome some of the fears and phobias in my life.

Growing up I felt very sorry for myself as I had many things which affected my confidence and made life a struggle. I had a severe stuttering problem, was quite short for a male at five foot four, I had a bald patch on my head and was also quite fat. I would appreciate if you stop laughing at this point, I have had that all my life.

I was most desperate to overcome the stutter and aged twenty-two decided to try to achieve fluency. As well as looking into the physical aspects of speech such as breathing, I also studied the mental as I realised I needed to change the way I thought and my approach to life. I was someone who constantly worried about everything, I even had grey hair by the age of twenty-one.

I read many books on the subjects of confidence, self esteem and positive thinking. In one of these books, I read a chapter which explained about the fact that we all have issues in life and things about our person that we would like to change. That was certainly me, so I continued to read. There are many things in life that we are not happy with, some we can change, some we can not. The things we are unable to change, we have to learn to live with and to accept and the things we can change, we have to change however hard that might be.

I thought about this and because hair will never grow on the bald patch and the fact that I will never grow taller, these were two aspects of my life that I realised I would have to accept.

The speech problem and weight were areas I could change. To lose the excess weight and to overcome the stutter were not easy and took a long time. This though has changed my life to such a degree, where as a career I now help other people to achieve fluency.
